If you are showing work in Milan and you don’t live here, printing is not really the problem. Getting the work onto the wall is.
Studio Fahrenheit prints, mounts and frames, and — with the framers and installers the studio has worked with for years — sees the work hung. You send files, or you bring them in and we look at them together. What leaves the studio is finished work, ready for the wall.
Where the studio comes from
Gianni Romano learned the trade in the 1980s at Indio, a Milan lab that worked for the fashion names of the period. He started in the darkroom: developing negatives, studying the chemistry, reading the classical printers closely, and then, one step at a time, author printing.
The darkroom closed in 2024. What it taught did not close with it — an eye for half-tones, an obsession with detail in the highlights, respect for a genuinely deep black. That is the reason the digital prints look the way they do. It is not nostalgia; it is the method.
Studio Fahrenheit has printed for exhibitions, art books, portfolios and fashion projects since 1997.
What the studio does
Fine-art pigment printing, colour and black and white, on cotton and baryta papers: Hahnemühle, Canson, Mediajet, Awagami, Breathing Color. Large-format Epson printers, up to 160 cm on the short side.
Mounting and framing. Dibond, Forex and Plexiglass. Frames are made to measure with the framers the studio has worked with for years: solid hardwoods, walnut most often, a profile chosen for the photograph rather than picked off a catalogue page, hand-cut mats, and museum glass that holds back 99% of UV. The print is where the work starts, not where it ends.
Working sessions at the monitor, with you in the room: we look at the file, choose the paper, proof, correct, and proof again until the print is what the photograph deserves. Charged by the hour.
Scanning, for large-format negatives and reflective originals, and batch scanning for archives — a studio, a foundation, the estate of a photographer.

Working with the studio
At Viale Andrea Doria 33 — ten minutes on foot from Milano Centrale, and two hundred metres from Loreto on metro lines M1 and M2. Write or call before coming, and the work will be on the table when you arrive. Come and see the proofs: on a print, what you see on a screen is a promise, not a result.

And one thing worth saying in advance: if a file will not carry the size you want, or a paper is the wrong choice for the image, you will be told so before the work starts — even when it means it costs us the job.
