Fine-art printing

A print is where a photograph stops being a file. It becomes something you hang, something you can hold, something that has to survive. That is the part worth getting right.

The studio came out of the darkroom, and that training never left: an eye for half-tones, an obsession with detail in the highlights, respect for a black that is genuinely full. All of it goes into digital fine-art printing now, in colour and in black and white. The technology changed. The approach did not.

How the work is done

Every print starts from a conversation. We look at the file together, take care of the retouching, the colour correction and the optimisation for print, then proof, compare and correct — choosing the paper that suits that particular image — until the print is what the photograph deserves. Sessions at the monitor are charged by the hour.

Giclée printing works equally well from native digital files and from high-resolution scans of negatives and transparencies.

If you cannot be in the studio, a single proof print can be made and sent to you before the full set goes ahead. On a set of any size it is worth the delay.

Every print can be issued with a certificate of authenticity, on request.
